When You See an Opening…Kick Ass

January 27, 2011

You have been working for your company for a month, a year, or a decade and everything is going great.  Out of the blue you see an opening that could really make a difference in your career.  You start processing the million different possibilities and you think to yourself I can do this, no seriously I can really do this, and I can show everybody how much ass I can kick.

The opening could be any number of things a new project, a developer left, project manager was moved to a different project, company is evaluating new software, or any other of the countless opportunities that you can totally dominate.

If you have even the slightest inclination that you can handle this opportunity then you should do whatever you can to show what you got.  Forget that modest and self destructive side of you that says you can’t do it because YOU CAN.

Don’t just do this for your career or the company.  Do it for you.  Show yourself that you can handle something of this magnitude and nail it.
